Martin L. Lazar, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a Board certified Neurological
Surgeon who has been in active practice in Dallas, Texas since 1973. His
special interests lie in the advanced
Microneurosurgical, Microvascular and
Microendoscopic Minimally Invasive
techniques as they apply to
Skull Base Tumors,
Pituitary Tumors and
Acoustic Tumors);
Orbital Tumors;
Complex Spinal Disorders
including Spinal Cord Tumors;
Trigeminal Neuralgia,
Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia
and Hemifacial Spasm.
Dr. Lazar received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree at
McGill University in Montreal, Canada and his Doctor of Medicine
from the University of Ottawa. His post-graduate education
included internship and residency in surgery at the Jewish General
Hospital in Montreal followed by a 5-year residency and fellowship
program in Neurological Surgery at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. Dr. Lazar completed a
post-graduate fellowship in Neurology at the National Hospital for
Nervous Diseases in London, England as well as training in
Microvascular Neurosurgery in Zurich Switzerland under the
direction of Prof. Gazi Yasargil.
Dr. Lazar has been in Private Practice, in Dallas, Texas since
1973. He holds appointments in Neurological Surgery at several
Dallas area hospitals. He is Board Certified in Neurological
Surgery and a member of American Association of Neurological
Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Heart
Association, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, International
College of Surgeons, New York Academy of Sciences, North American
Skull Base Society, Society for Neurovascular Surgery, The Joint
Section on Tumours (American Association of Neurological
Surgeons/Congress of Neurosurgery), The
Pituitary Society among
other national and international organizations
(Spine Universe,
Trigeminal Neuralgia).
Dr. Lazar is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of
MediSend/International
a 501(C) 3 charity based in Dallas. He served as this charity's
President, and later as Chairman of the Board until his retirement
from the Board in July 2005. This NGO, in existence since 1990,
collects surplus medical, surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic
equipment and supplies that for any of a number of reasons cannot,
and will not, be used in this country, but still have a useful
lifespan. This high quality and valuable surplus is distributed
free of any charge to qualified healthcare institutions in
developing countries. Since inception, MediSend/International has
served recipient institutions in over 75 countries having
delivered over $100 million in goods.
Dr. Lazar is the recipient of the 2003 George Washington Honor
Medal awarded by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, the
2003 E-chievement Award from the e-town Foundation, the
2002 Distinguished Service Award from the Federation of Kerala
Associations in North America (FOKANA), the 2001 SAVVY
Award, the 1995 Care Foundation International Humanitarian
Award and the 1993 JC Penney Golden Rule Award among
other civic honours.
Dr. Lazar, as Chairman of the Board of MediSend/International
accepted Texas' highest honor for recycling, as this organization
was the recipient of the Year 2000 Gary Mauro Award from the Texas
Corporate Recycling Council. Dr. Lazar was appointed to the
position of Chairman Emeritus of MediSend/International
in July 2005.
Dr. Lazar has been recognized annually by his colleagues and peers as
one of the BEST DOCTORS in Dallas since the inception of this
independent program in 1992 and is the ONLY NEUROSURGEON to be so recognized.
